Tonya Schenk

After leaving University in 1992 Tonya worked as an office temp before taking work with GEC Alsthom as a technical administrator for 2˝  years. During this period of time Tonya developed an interest in IT and attended many courses herself through work. She has continued to build upon the skills developed during the years in these roles, gaining invaluable interpersonal skills as well as an insight into how businesses operate, both on a large multinational level and in a small business. These skills help in the role of teacher and in support of software packages.

Tonya moved into the computer industry in 1995 working for BIT’s, The Computer People, a Networking Solutions provider. BIT’s encouraged Tonya to gain a professional teaching qualification, and she went on to achieve a distinction for her RSA IT Diploma. BIT’s did not regularly need a full time trainer, so in between training Tonya carried out various other duties, including project management, marketing, sales, office administration, and built up her knowledge of networking technical and administration skills. In these years Tonya rapidly progressed to training Microsoft Software products at an advanced level. 

Since becoming a freelance trainer at the end of 1997 Tonya has continued to gain experience and develop further skills, whilst qualifying as a Microsoft Certified Professional in a variety of MS technical areas. Her portfolio includes Microsoft applications, project management, presentation skills, and a variety of Web based skills.

Besides undertaking training, Tonya also designs and writes learning materials and courseware. These have been Web based, computer based & classroom based. Tonya also acts as a consultant, quality checking existing business training material and facilitating change by introducing new life, energy and intuitive ideas into the training environment.

In her training she draws from her many years' experience to provide real-world scenarios, problems and solutions. Tonya believes that learning should be fun and that ‘knowledge is power, which is why I am in the power industry’. Her clients have included BAE Systems (formerly British Aerospace), KPMG, Kellogg’s, Parity Training Group, National Crime Squad, Littlewoods, Software Generation and an assortment of other companies through the FSB (Federation of Small Business’)
